Portable Venting Online Regarding Low Streaming Earnings

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, known as Portable, has expressed his concerns on social media regarding the low income he receives from music streaming platforms, despite having released several songs.

In a recent video, he mentioned that the revenue from services like Apple Music is significantly lower than he anticipated. He called on prominent Nigerian music executives for guidance on how to improve his earnings from digital streams.

Portable stated that this issue has caused him personal distress and expressed his belief that with appropriate mentorship, he could excel beyond many of his contemporaries in the music industry.

He shared, “I am in pain; I have been uploading my songs to Apple Music every month, but the money I generate is too low. They say it is because Nigerian streams are inexpensive, but I also have fans in America and around the world. Where is the revenue from those international streams? Don Jazzy, please help me and teach me how to generate more income from music streams. I have an Apple Music account, but the revenue I receive is very minimal. They divide my earnings into 17. Please come and show me how to earn more from music. If Don Jazzy teaches me how to generate more money from streaming platforms, I would surpass all artists in Nigeria.”

This appeal underscores the ongoing difficulties faced by some Nigerian artists in monetizing their music streams on a global scale, despite the growing international popularity of Afrobeats.
