The custody dispute between musician Davido and Sophia Momodu has shifted attention from the courtroom to social media platforms.

Sophia Momodu’s legal team, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, has accused Davido of inciting online harassment against one of their partners following recent court proceedings concerning their daughter, Imade.

The case, currently ongoing in a Lagos court, focuses on custody arrangements for the child. Although Davido later stated he would be stepping back from the lawsuit and indicated that he was not seeking sole custody but rather a structured co-parenting plan, the post-hearing discussions have generated further controversy.

In his online response, Davido expressed dissatisfaction with the courtroom events, specifically referencing comments made by Sophia’s attorney, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah.

He mentioned feeling secure about his legal position but felt a line was crossed when personal matters, including the mention of his deceased son, were brought into the discussion.

Additionally, the singer inadvertently tagged gospel artist Tosin Bee while posting details about the lawyer, resulting in a surge of attention to her profile.

In response, Punuka Attorneys issued a statement condemning what they characterized as inflammatory remarks and intimidation directed at their partner outside of court. They emphasized that the dispute is to be resolved solely within the court’s jurisdiction.

The statement noted, “Our attention has been drawn to all manner of inflammatory public statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media, directed at our Partner, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State. That matter is sub judice. It will be decided by the court alone, on evidence and law, and no amount of media commentary will sway that process or our approach to the case. In keeping with the highest professional conduct, no statements on the substance of the case will be issued by us.”

The statement continued, “However, if legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled. The administration of justice depends upon fearless advocacy.”

Punuka Attorneys urged the Nigerian Bar Association and lawyers worldwide to unite against this situation, which they described as a gross violation of the legal profession.

Currently, despite the ongoing discussions and social media exchanges, the custody case remains with the court. Observers note that the final decision will be determined by judicial ruling rather than social media commentary.
