Kanye West has stated that his apology for previous antisemitic comments was not merely a strategic “PR move” aimed at clearing the path for his album BULLY or reestablishing his Yeezy brand. He clarified in a recent interview that his full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal was driven by genuine feelings of remorse.

In a conversation with Vanity Fair, he mentioned, “It’s my understanding that I was in the Top 10 most listened-to artists overall in the U.S. on Spotify in 2025, and last week, and most days as well.” He also noted that his upcoming album, BULLY, is among the most anticipated pre-saves on Spotify.

West claimed that his 2007 album Graduation was the “most listened-to” Hip Hop album of 2025, implying that he did not need to apologize publicly to maintain his relevance. However, it is important to point out that Graduation was actually ranked fourth, with Kendrick Lamar’s GNX taking the top spot. “This, for me, as evidenced by the latter, isn’t about reviving my commerciality,” he said. “This is because these remorseful feelings were so heavy on my heart and weighing on my spirit.”

He expressed, “I owe a huge apology once again for everything that I said that hurt the Jewish and Black communities in particular. All of it went too far.” West remarked that as a public figure, many people follow and listen to his words, making it essential for them to understand which side of history he wishes to be on, emphasizing love and positivity.

For context, West had previously declared on January 26 that he is “not a Nazi or an antisemite” in an ad titled “To Those I’ve Hurt.” He described experiencing a “four-month-long manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior.” He concluded with, “I write today simply to ask for your patience and understanding as I find my way home.”
