Nigerian singer Simi has addressed the rumors surrounding her decision to step back from her career due to marriage. During a reflection on her latest single, “Where You Dey,” a collaboration with fellow artist Chike, she shared that the song was created during a challenging time in her life.

Simi initially planned to release the track in 2025, but ongoing health issues led to multiple delays, impacting her creative output. On January 23, 2026, she posted a throwback video from a studio session where she recorded the song with Chike. In the post, she noted that although she had shared a snippet and hoped to release it sooner, completing the song was extremely challenging.

She described a period of constant illness and exhaustion, which she referred to as a “blur.” Even while filming the snippet, she felt unwell and had to push through the recording session.

Simi expressed admiration for Chike’s talent, stating she believed he was an ideal fit for the song. She commended his professionalism, mentioning that he came directly to her studio the day after returning from a trip, not knowing she was experiencing health struggles.

After reviewing the studio footage, Simi noted her surprise at her energy level in the video, remarking that she barely recognized herself. She also faced difficulties with mixing and mastering the song due to her condition and ultimately chose to handle it herself, despite her dislike for that process.

The delay in the song’s release was particularly disappointing for Simi, as she felt fans had already connected with it and were eagerly anticipating its launch. Her health issues also hindered her ability to promote the song effectively, as she struggled to remember parts of the video shoot.

Regardless of these challenges, Simi emphasized that “Where You Dey” was made with love and perseverance. She encouraged listeners to embrace the song wholeheartedly, giving it the energy she was unable to provide at that time.

In addressing critics who claimed she had given up her career for marriage, Simi rejected that narrative and asserted that her music should speak for itself.

Chike responded to the clip by confirming that Simi has welcomed twins and left a lighthearted comment, emphasizing the enjoyable experience of working with her.
