Davido Responds After Losing ₦71 Million AFCON Bet

Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, known as Davido, has shared his thoughts on social media following a loss of $50,000 (approximately ₦71 million) related to Nigeria’s defeat to Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria’s campaign in the tournament concluded on Wednesday after a tense semi-final match against the host country, which ended goalless after both regulation and extra time, leading to Morocco winning 4–2 in the penalty shootout. Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou played a key role in the victory with crucial saves.

Prior to the match, Davido publicly expressed his support for Nigeria by placing a $50,000 wager on the Super Eagles to reach the final, sharing his betting slip online and indicating confidence in a significant payout.

Despite the outcome of the match, which resulted in the Super Eagles facing Egypt in the third-place playoff while Morocco competes with Senegal for the championship, Davido maintained a composed demeanor. After the game, he posted on his Instagram Stories a photo of himself enjoying grilled fish as he was preparing to depart from Morocco, captioning it with, “Perfect sign out.”

While the Super Eagles’ elimination was disappointing for fans in Nigeria, Davido’s relaxed attitude reflected a perspective that life continues, regardless of the result.
