Portable Faces Charges In Federal High Court

Controversial street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, faced serious legal challenges on Monday when he was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on nine criminal charges.

Court documents outline accusations including assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest, all connected to a chaotic event that reportedly took place at Portable’s bar in Iyana Ilogbo on New Year’s Day.

Prosecutors claim that Portable attacked his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, during the incident. The situation allegedly intensified when several police officers intervened, including a female inspector named Ogungbe Olayemi, who was also reportedly assaulted.

The charge sheet identifies additional alleged victims, including Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah. Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, which is said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola.

During the court proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses, although Ashabi was not present.

When the issue of bail was raised, the presiding judge denied the request, noting the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody until January 19.

Outside the courtroom, the Ogun State Police Command is reportedly investigating a viral video that seems to show Portable being assaulted while in police custody, adding further complexity to the case.

As the legal proceedings continue, attention remains focused on the court to determine the outcome of the singer’s situation.
