Teyana Taylor And Ryan Coogler Win Awards At The 2026 Golden Globes

On Sunday, January 11, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards commenced with a notable moment as Teyana Taylor won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film One Battle After Another. Her early recognition helped establish a ceremony characterized by bold selections and notable victories.

In her acceptance speech, Taylor expressed gratitude and motivation. She thanked God for her journey and highlighted that “purpose always finds its moment.” She also acknowledged the film’s director, stating, “To Paul ‘Let Him Cook’ Thomas Anderson,” before sharing a message for viewers: “To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability … We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.”

Taylor’s win was part of One Battle After Another’s overall success at the awards. The film was recognized as Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Anderson received accolades for Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Later in the evening, Ryan Coogler celebrated a significant win for Black-led cinema when his film Sinners received the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award. This category was newly introduced in 2024, with Barbie being the inaugural winner. Producer Sevak “Sev” Ohanian, who worked on Sinners with Ryan and his wife, Zinzi Coogler, emphasized his passion for filmmaking during his acceptance speech, stating, “We really cherish the moviegoing experience. I literally proposed to my wife in a movie theater, so this one means a lot to us.” Coogler expressed his appreciation for the audience, stating, “I just want to thank the audience for showing up. It means the world.”

The success of Sinners is reflected in its box office performance, with Box Office Mojo reporting over $368 million in worldwide earnings and nearly $280 million from domestic ticket sales. In addition to the Golden Globes, the film has received numerous accolades since its release, including several Critics’ Choice Movie honors and multiple nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards.
