Anthony Joshua Honors Friends Who Died In Nigeria Accident At London Funeral

Anthony Joshua attended a memorial at London Central Mosque on Sunday (January 4) to pay tribute to two important figures in his life—strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Kevin Latif “Latz” Ayodele—who both died in a car accident in Nigeria.

Joshua, 36, provided his first public update since the incident by posting on Instagram photos featuring grieving family members, captioning them, “My brothers’ keeper.” One image depicted him sitting with his mother, Yeta Odusanya, and Ghami’s sister, who was holding a framed photo of her brother. Another image included Joshua with Ayodele’s father.

The service in the Regent’s Park area included a Janaza (funeral) prayer. Additional events were planned for later that day, including a burial service for Ghami at Hendon Cemetery and Crematorium and a wake at Cavendish Banqueting Hall in North West London.

Ghani and Ayodele were traveling with Joshua in Nigeria on December 29, 2025, when their black Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu. Reports indicated that both men died at the scene, while Joshua and the driver survived. He was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve and returned to the UK to recuperate.

According to The Sun, Nigerian police charged the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, with several offenses, including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license. Kayode’s lawyer stated that he pleaded not guilty, attributing the accident to brake failure. The court set his bail at 5 million naira (approximately $3,500), and the case is scheduled for a hearing on January 20.

A report from Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps indicated preliminary findings that the vehicle was speeding and attempted an improper overtaking maneuver before the collision.

Joshua had gone to Nigeria for the holidays following his victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19 in Miami. Both Ghami and Ayodele were part of the training team that helped him prepare for that fight.
