Fridayy Expresses Feeling ‘Excluded’ From The R&B Discussion Following His 2026 Grammy Nomination And Announces A New Project

Fridayy expresses feelings of exclusion from the R&B conversation. Following the recent nomination of his song “Proud Of Me” for Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards, the singer-songwriter aims to address the genre ambiguity for those who may not be familiar with his work.

On Tuesday (Dec. 10), he announced the release of a new project scheduled for Friday (Dec. 12). In a black-and-white trailer released alongside the announcement, a reporter inquired about his Grammy nomination, asking how he perceives himself as an artist given his recognition in the rap category despite being known primarily as an R&B artist.

Fridayy replied, “That’s a good question. I feel like a lot of people from the outside looking in don’t know where to place me, but my fans know I really do this singing stuff and R&B is one of my first true loves.”

He further commented, “I see a lot of these lists — no disrespect — I just feel like I’m left out of the chat, you know what I’m saying? Now I think it’s time for me to enter the conversation.” The trailer concluded with a shot of The Westdale and the text “Everybody Got Somebody,” potentially indicating the title of the upcoming project.

Fans will have to wait until Friday to find out the project’s official name and whether it features any guest artists.

Meek Mill’s contribution to “Proud Of Me” likely played a role in its nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance. The song will compete against entries such as Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “luther,” PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s “SOMEBODY LOVES ME,” JID’s “Wholeheartedly,” among others, at the awards ceremony in February 2026.

Despite the competition, Fridayy appears appreciative of the nomination. He shared on Instagram in November, “This is not just a song; this is therapy to the whole world. I never had a song touch the people like this, and seeing all the reactions when they heard it made me feel like I did the right thing creating this song and touching on the ones we lost.”
