Lil Uzi Vert is serious about supporting JT. On December 2, the rapper expressed her gratitude in an interview with Wonderland for having Uzi as a “mentor and critic,” particularly during the creation of her debut album.

“I’m so grateful to have him as a mentor and critic. He does not play with me. He isn’t going to make me think everything is good,” JT remarked. “My boyfriend is such a Leo. He took the training wheels off my bike, that’s what I always say.”

Initially, Uzi provided guidance and encouragement, but eventually, JT noted that he encouraged her to become independent: “One day, he just decided, ‘Dress yourself.’” During the conversation, she also recalled Uzi complimenting her by saying, “I love your new direction,” even though they were already in a relationship.

Last month, JT released “Girls Gone Wild,” which is the first single from her highly anticipated debut solo album. Although she didn’t reveal the album’s title, she mentioned that “everything is going to be very upbeat.”

“Even if you don’t know the lyrics, when I perform it, you’re going to want to move your body,” JT stated. Wonderland highlighted her involvement in every detail of the project, including its production. “I need to start getting my producer credit, because I do a lot of producing in that studio,” she added.

“Girls Gone Wild” marks JT’s second solo release this year, following March’s “Ran Out.” Despite receiving a KAYTRANADA remix, it appears that “Ran Out” will not be included in the final album.

Meanwhile, Uzi has been consistently releasing music since becoming an independent artist. In November, they released “Chanel Boy” and “Relevant,” and most recently, they unveiled “Regular” along with a music video.

“Uzi is a global icon and a dynamic force in the music industry, so we’re thrilled to work together with them in this new capacity,” stated Krystian Santini, president of Roc Nation Distribution, in a press release. “Our partnership is centered around empowering Uzi to continue building their legacy, with full creative control and the resources to take their artistry to new heights.”
