Toosii has decided to join Syracuse University. The artist will be shifting his focus from music to playing football for the university’s well-regarded football program.

The rapper, known for his song “Favorite Song,” made this announcement on Monday (Dec. 1). He expressed his commitment, stating, “COMMITTED. For every kid who ever had a dream, make it reality. God’s will is the way and no one can stop it — not even the devil. I wanna thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ for even giving me the strength to chase what I believed when so many people told me I couldn’t,” on his official X account, sharing photos of himself in a Syracuse Orange football jersey.

He also mentioned, “Thank you to the people who supported me as well; it never [goes] unnoticed. To be born in Syracuse and move to North Carolina at age 12 and haven’t been back since. When Coach Fran called, I knew it was a sign from God. So, with that being said, ‘Cuse I’m coming home.”

This development is not unexpected for Toosii’s fans and followers. In August, the platinum rapper indicated his plans to “go back to school” to play football for a Division 1 college team in 2026. He stated, “I’m chasing history. First multi-platinum recording artist to go back to school and play DIVISION I football. Next year, I’m gonna be on somebody’s team. Mark my words!” accompanying a video of himself training at North Carolina State University.

In September, he announced that he had received a scholarship offer to play for Sacramento State.

Joining Syracuse’s football team represents a significant moment for Toosii. During high school, the 25-year-old played as a wide receiver for Rolesville High School in North Carolina, according to CBS Sports. However, his pursuit of football was postponed when his music career gained traction. His song “Love Cycle” achieved platinum status in 2020, and he was selected for XXL’s Freshman Class of up-and-coming rappers the following year. His popularity surged further when “Favorite Song” went viral on TikTok in 2023. His most recent project, JADED, was released in October 2024.

For the time being, those looking for new music from Toosii may need to wait and see how his football aspirations unfold.
