Drake suffered another significant loss over the weekend, and it wasn’t related to music, at least not in a direct way. On Saturday evening (Nov. 1), the Los Angeles Dodgers staged a remarkable comeback to secure the World Series title, resulting in the 6 God being mercilessly ridiculed online.

Let’s examine the circumstances leading to the criticism of Drizzy. A long-standing feud between the Boy and Kendrick Lamar largely divided Toronto from Los Angeles. The two outspoken rappers, who are fans of their local Major League Baseball teams, found their rivalry intensify when their teams both made it to the World Series.

Drake attended a couple of World Series games. After the Dodgers’ loss in Game 5, he further infuriated the situation by mocking star player Shohei Ohtani in a couple of social media posts. With the Toronto Blue Jays then up 3-2, they needed one more victory to clinch their franchise’s third championship.

The alleged Drake curse may have struck once more. In Game 6, the Blue Jays suffered a narrow defeat, and they maintained a lead for much of the night during the succeeding Game 7. The Dodgers managed to tie the game, then took the lead after Will Smith’s home run in the 11th inning, securing the win with a series-ending double play.

Drake was immediately ridiculed online after his local team suffered a loss, and so did he by association.

The Blue Jays suffered a two-game losing streak following Drake’s arrival. A tweet from @dcmadness202 declared “The curse lives.”

Added user @ellezirkpdx, “Drake Curse, hilarious! Never mention Shohei again.”

“Rapper Glasses Malone referenced Drake’s song ‘It Was God’s Plan’ in a tweet.”

The FOX Sports MLB Twitter account escalated the lightheartedness by creating a meme featuring K Dot and Drake images to announce the Dodgers’ win, captioned with “DAMN.”

On the corporate side, Nike aired a congratulatory advertisement for the Dodgers. It was also accompanied by Kendrick Lamar’s “squabble up.”

Drake’s fanbase still stood by him. “The LA Dodgers have recently secured back-to-back championships, and Drake appears to be at the forefront of everyone’s thoughts, or so @CuffsTheLegend tweeted.”

The Dodgers’ victory, similar to the Blue Jays’ championships in 1992 and 1993, also resulted in back-to-back titles for the team. The irony of the name being a song by Drake, infamous for dissing Meek Mill, was not lost on online users. Additionally, it was noted that Kendrick Lamar made a reference to the song when he rapped “Back To Back”. I’m a fan of that song, I’ll return to it, as a matter of record,” on “Euphoria.”

It may be wise for Drake to avoid social media for at least a few days.
