On Sunday (Oct. 26), Toronto witnessed a surprise concert appearance by Drake at Vybz Kartel’s event. The dancehall icon brought out the 6 God during his first of three performances at the Scotiabank Arena for his Canadian debut.

We’ve been eagerly anticipating and fervently praying for this moment to finally arrive. I hope you grasp that what’s happening tonight goes beyond the music itself. The rapper behind “God’s Plan” stated that tonight is not just about watching two artists. He later told Kartel, “Welcome home – we’re extremely thankful and delighted to have you with us.” You had a profound impact on every aspect of our lives. Believe me, particularly out here.

Drake expressed his admiration for the “Fever” artist by giving him flowers and love that he deserved, and then asked if he could play some records. The songs included “Hotline Bling,” “Controlla” which is a dancehall-infused track from Views in 2016, and “NOKIA.” View the footage from the show listed below.

The Toronto World Series was where Drake was already located. On Friday, October 24, he attended Game 1 between the Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Rogers Centre. What’s going on, what’s going on. He said, “The biggest 6ixer, live from down here where the Jays are at the bottom, was on my 39th birthday, the World Series.”

The rapper, after displaying his custom Crown Jewel chain, continued, “You see the whole city turned out tonight.” Cheers to the Jays. We’re currently experiencing issues, but we’ve faced this problem before.

It’s worth noting that before anyone accuses Drake of being a culture vulture, he has long credited Kartel as one of his “biggest influences.” The artist behind the song “Passionfruit” commended the Kingston native for his influence on their music in a 2016 interview with Nardwuar.

Although they haven’t worked together officially, Kartel’s vocals were sampled in PARTYNEXTDOOR’s song “Not Nice,” which Drake co-wrote.

This past January, Kartel reciprocated with some significant praise of his own. During his Billboard cover story, he stated that Drake was a more accomplished and renowned artist than Kendrick Lamar.

I don’t listen to Kendrick at all, so I wouldn’t be aware. What rhymes he says. The dancehall star said, “I saw it on the internet, but no disrespect to the guy.” He further clarified that Drake is “more in tune with Jamaica and the culture.”
