Teyana Taylor, Danai Gurira, And More Bring Wakanda To The 2025 Vogue World Runway

The annual Vogue World showcase made its return to Los Angeles on Sunday, October 26. The 2025 edition, dubbed Vogue World: Hollywood, occurred on the Paramount Pictures lot, incorporating a live performance-meets-runway format that paid tribute to fashion, film, and music. According to reports, several famous people were seen at the event, with some seated in the front row and others performing on stage.

The sixth act was a standout segment of the evening, focusing on Afrofuturism and paying tribute to Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter. Carter’s designs are closely associated with visually striking representations of Black culture on screen, thanks to her work on films such as School Daze, Malcolm X and Sinners. In 2019, she made history as the first Black woman to receive an Academy Award for Best Costume Design, a distinction awarded for her contribution to Marvel’s Black Panther.

During this act, actors Danai Gurira and Teyana Taylor made unexpected appearances, both wearing original designs created by Carter that were featured in the film starring Chadwick Boseman. They were seen wearing the distinctive red and silver battle armor of the Dora Milaje, an elite all-female unit that serves as the royal guard of Wakanda’s ruler. Angela Bassett, who was accompanied by Damson Idris, participated in the presentation while wearing the purple gown created by Carter for her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Whether or not Taylor and Idris’ inclusion in the critically acclaimed superhero series has been confirmed remains to be seen.

Tonight marked Gurira’s first appearance at Vogue World, in contrast Taylor who has previously performed at the event, specifically delivering a notable performance at Vogue World: Paris in 2024.

Black Panther, which was released in 2018, achieved global box office earnings exceeding $1.3 billion and garnered seven Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning three. The sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was released in 2022, and it carried on the narrative after Boseman’s untimely death. Ryan Coogler directed both films.
