Davido Takes On Key Leadership Position In Osun State

Davido, the renowned Nigerian Afrobeats musician, who is also known as David Adeleke, has been named Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.

The Osun State Government announced the initiative on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as a key component of the state’s renewed commitment to revitalizing its sports sector and promoting youth empowerment through sports development.

The statement indicates that Davido’s appointment is intended to garner private and public sector backing for sports funding, with an emphasis on upgrading facilities and increasing opportunities for youth involvement across the state. The government said the decision is a reflection of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s wider commitment to modernising sports infrastructure and promoting community involvement through athletics.

The Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, who is also the Commissioner for Sports, has confirmed the appointment of Davido as Chairman of the Sports Trust Fund, stating that he accepted the role with enthusiasm. Adewusi suggested that the singer’s involvement is anticipated to draw both local and international investment into the state’s sporting initiatives.

Appointing Davido is a strategic move. According to Adewusi, his influence and enthusiasm will aid in securing funds that will considerably enhance sports development in Osun.

The state is also working on setting up the Osun State Sports Commission, which will function as the key body responsible for sports administration and policy enforcement. Moreover, he verified that the current renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is nearing completion and will meet Olympic standards once the renovation is completed.

The Osun State Government reiterated its pledge to making sports a crucial element in youth empowerment, talent identification, and community growth, an initiative it claims will significantly benefit from Davido’s leadership and international influence.
