9ice Talks About The New Artists That He Finds Impressive These Days

Veteran Afropop star 9ice has praised a new wave of Nigerian musicians for their creativity and bold lyrics, saying their music is a nice change from what’s usually popular.

In a recent video interview, the Gongo Aso singer shared his appreciation for several up-and-coming artists, like Fola, Ayo Maff, Shoday, Rybeena, and Fido, especially noting Fido’s new song Joy is Coming, which really impressed him.

“I really admire many of them,” 9ice explained, mentioning that these young artists are different because they are willing to tackle various topics and try new sounds. “Their music is really unique, and at least, they are addressing issues that others avoid,” he added.

The singer pointed out Joy is Coming as an example of this change, saying it does not stick to the usual themes of love and party life that are common in today’s Afrobeats. “It’s not just about girls anymore, and people really like it,” he remarked, stressing that having a special style and viewpoint helps keep an artist relevant. “Once you find your own space, that’s all you need. ”

9ice’s thoughts show that there is more attention on a fresh wave of creativity in Nigerian music, where trying new things and telling deeper stories is valued. Coming from an artist who has played a big role in shaping modern Afropop in the country, his support gives real encouragement to younger musicians who are changing the sound of Nigerian music.
