Veteran Nigerian artist 2Baba has expressed his views on the ongoing discussion that compares Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti with contemporary artist Wizkid, describing it as “ridiculous and disrespectful.”

He shared these thoughts during a recent episode of the Mic On podcast, hosted by Seun Okinbaoye, where he also discussed personal matters, including difficulties in his marriage to Natasha and a viral incident in London that resulted in his temporary arrest.

Regarding the debate surrounding the comparison between Fela and Wizkid, which has elicited responses from Seun Kuti, Yeni Kuti, Femi Kuti, Wizkid’s fanbase, and the broader Nigerian music community, 2Baba articulated his position clearly.

While he recognized Wizkid’s significant accomplishments and international success, he emphasized the unfairness of placing the contemporary artist alongside Fela, whose influence and contributions to Nigerian music and global Afrobeat remain unparalleled.

“It is ridiculous and disrespectful to compare Fela with Wizkid. Also, it is unfair to Wizkid to compare him with Fela,” 2Baba remarked.

He pointed out that both artists belong to different eras, and while Wizkid is building his own impressive legacy, Fela Kuti’s impact spans generations and should be honored accordingly.
