21 Savage Announces Release Date For ‘WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?’

The end of the year is approaching, and major releases are starting to decrease. Nonetheless, 21 Savage is set to deliver a potential album-of-the-year contender.

On Monday (Dec. 8), he announced that his upcoming project, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?, will be released on Friday (Dec. 12). The announcement was accompanied by a black-and-white teaser that features various visuals, including what appears to be hitmen and burning buildings.

As indicated on the pre-save page on Apple Music, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS? will consist of 14 tracks, all of which have not yet been released. The trailer is available for viewing.

Savage’s longtime DJ, Marc B, expressed enthusiasm by stating “It’s time” in the comments of the announcement, while DJ Khaled remarked, “Let’s go. WE READY.” One fan noted that the rapper’s new music is a “good way to end the year,” while another amusingly questioned if the video was created using AI.

Savage initially hinted at the project, abbreviated as WHTTS, during Art Basel in Miami. Attendees noticed an inflatable clown art installation, designed by Olaolu Slawn, which had a knife protruding from its head. This installation featured a QR code leading to a black-and-white cover and pre-save links for both Apple and Spotify.

In 2025, Savage has largely been involved in collaborations. He started the year with guest appearances on Lil Baby’s “Outfit” and Central Cee’s “GBP.” He also contributed to various albums, including Travis Scott’s JACKBOYS 2 and Metro Boomin’s A Futuristic Summa.

His previous solo album, 2024’s american dream, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and included tracks such as “redrum” and “prove it,” featuring Summer Walker. The album also featured contributions from artists like Doja Cat, Lil Durk, Brent Faiyaz, and Mariah the Scientist.
