2 Chainz, Ronald Isley, & The Isley Brothers – The ATL Experience

2 Chainz The Isley Brothers The ATL

2 Chainz collaborates with The Isley Brothers on the lead single from the soundtrack of the forthcoming short film, Red Clay. This song pays a deeply personal and introspective tribute to the complexities of the city where he grew up, combining gritty narrative elements with emotive, soulful melodies and genuine reflections on life in his hometown.

Atlanta native 2 Chainz establishes the atmosphere by referencing the city’s I-285 highway—a circular route that not only encompasses Atlanta but also serves as a metaphor for his complete life cycle. He then paints vivid scenes with unfiltered lyrics that capture the complexities of coming of age in Atlanta.

In a particularly memorable verse, Chainz recounts the tale of a woman who shares her secrets with someone she has recently befriended. She was set up by her friend’s boyfriend and then robbed. In areas where the need to survive frequently takes precedence over allegiance, trust can be exploited for harmful purposes.

The key element that brings everything together is Ronald Isley’s chorus, “Atlanta is bad to you, at home come back to you.” The city’s complex atmosphere is both heart-wrenching and endearing, capable of shattering one’s spirit yet still evoking a strong sense of belonging.

The video begins with panoramic views of the city’s East Side, specifically Moreland Supermarket, Waffle House, Candyland, and the iconic “Welcome to East Atlanta” sign, whereupon Chainz exits Moreland Supermarket accompanied by The Isley Brothers.
